Golf Driving Tips
Hitting a long and straight drive is one of the best experiences in the game of golf. However developing consistency with the driver is one of the toughest challenges in the game. The driver requires the most accuracy in order to hit well and you really need to have a strong grasp of good swing mechanics in order to use this club effectively. Here are a few tips to keep in mind when learning how to drive a golf ball:
Tip 1: Use a light grip pressure
Gripping the club too tightly can cause tension in your body which promotes poor swing mechanics. You want most of the pressure in the grip to come from your left hand (if you are a right handed player). Relax and focus on letting the club do the work.
Tip 2: Generate lag
Leverage or lag is an important aspect of increasing distance and club head speed at impact. One of the best ways to generate lag is to make sure your shift your weight to the left first at the start of the downswing before moving your arms down from the top of the swing. Also another good way to increase lag is to think of the golf swing motion like a whip and see yourself whipping the club which will help to improve a later release and prevent casting which leads to loss of distance and accuracy.
Tip 3: Use proper weight shift
Be sure to use your legs and lower body to generate more power in your golf swing. Make sure to shift most of your weight to the left side before you make contact with the ball. Your lower body can be a great source of power so use it effectively to generate more club head speed and increased driving distance.
Tip 4: Get proper equipment
The right equipment can also make a big difference in how well you drive the ball. If you have very high club head speeds over 120 mph then you will need clubs that have the right kind of shaft and loft. With high club head speeds you will need a stiff or super stiff flex shaft and loft under 9 degrees. However if your club head speed is not that high and is under 100 mph then you should go for regular flex shaft and higher loft over 10 degrees in order for you to get the most distance for that swing type.
