Golf Mental Tips
The mental game can really help you to improve and become a better player relatively quickly. Developing a solid routine is an important part of the mental game. There are two key elements to the routine and they are the physical and mental routine. The physical routine involves developing regular physical movements like taking a few deep breaths, some practice swings and such. Develop a physical routine that you consistently do that triggers the mental aspect of the routine which allows you to concentrate and focus better on the shot at hand.
Keep the mind quiet:
Thinking too much during the shot usually results in poor golf shots. The time to think is when you are behind the ball, this is the time to pick the club, decide on the target and judge the wind and such. However once you are over the ball be sure to just take a last quick look at the target and then just pull the trigger and let your mind and body work automatically.
The problem with thinking too much is that it usually leads to doubts and that leads to greater tension in the body and it is very difficult to swing the club well when you have a lot of tension in the body. After you have setup, simply take a last look at the target and keep the target in mind as you swing the club and avoid any other extraneous thoughts.
Forget the past or the future:
We all hit poor shots every now and then and it is important to learn to forgive and forget the bad shots before you hit your next shot. Every time you hit a bad shot simply decide that you will learn whatever you can from it and then forget it and move on the next shot in a trusting mentality.
