Tips To Help You Increase Golf Driving Distance
The driver is one of the most enjoyable clubs to hit in golf however unfortunately it can also be one of the most difficult clubs to hit well consistently and demands consistent swing mechanics. There are certain key tips that all good drivers of the golf ball tend to have in common so learning from them can help you get better.
Lag:
One of the secrets of long hitters is that they understand how to take advantage of leverage. You do not need huge muscles or great flexibility to hit the ball far instead if you know how to generate proper lag then you can create high club head speeds and hit the ball very far. One thing that causes many golfers to lose distance is casting the club or releasing the club too early. This can happen for many reasons but usually because the player gets the dominant hand involved too much in the swing.
It is best to keep your dominant hand passive in the swing and focus on pulling the club with the left hand through the swing. Another tip to help you get more lag is to shift your weight towards the target first before starting the downswing as this will help to load the club and create more speed through impact. Getting the right kind of driver is also very important if you want to maximize the distance you generate with you swing type.
Some golfers can generate very high club speeds over 100 mph and they need to use a driver with a stiff shaft and a loft between 8.5 and 9.5 degrees. If you have a lower club head speed then you should use a driver with more loft at least 10 degrees and a regular to senior flex for best results. Tension in the swing can also kill the amount of distance and accuracy you can get in your swing. Swinging freely and using a light grip pressure is the best approach and keep your mind focused on the target.
