Body movement is everything in golf. This is why you need to learn how to actually feel the club as a natural extension of your body. Every golfer has their own unique swing, it may not look perfect but if you follow the advice below you will make solid impact every time.
To master the golf swing technique there are two guiding principles that need to be followed: rhythm and balance. If you can control these two, you will still be able to strike the ball with good results even with an imperfect golf swing. By rhythm, I mean the ability to repeat the same movement on a consistent basis and at a specific speed. As for balance, this is achieved when the weight is evenly distributed on both feet.
Your finish always shows if there is balance and proves whether you have a balanced golf swing technique. When you finish your shot you should be able to hold your position for a count of three. Look around you on the golf course and you are always seeing players walking forward or losing balance after impact of the ball.
When it comes to rhythm it should be noted that if you move the body slowly, you will actually hit the ball better, and it will go a lot farther. If you just slow down, you have far more control over the club which will result in hitting the ball faster with less effort.
You will continually hear the phrase "keep your head down" when having golf lessons; however, remember that this is not the same as "keep your head still". Your head needs to follow your swing. If it fails to do so, it will lead to other problems such as shoulder movement and failure to shift your weight. When you hit the ball, your head should move three to even five inches to the right, and after you have hit the ball your head will move forward, a little over the tip of the left foot,
One very common mistake that can prevent you from mastering the golf swing is over-swinging. So many golfers think that if they want to hit the ball further they need a longer backswing n order to increase the club head speed. But you will find that if you do over-swing you will be unable to get the club head back square on impact which results in the ball will going in the wrong direction. You should not take the club farther back than you can turn your shoulders, otherwise you are only using your arms and the whole rhythm of your swing is lost.
Another classic error made so many golfers is too tight a grip on the club. This will ruin your swing as it causes tension in your arms, just relax and hold the club firmly but tension-free.
On a final note one of the most frequent mistakes players make during their golf swing is to start the downswing by moving the shoulders first while keeping their feet motionless. The correct move always starts from the feet upwards. This means that the shoulders will be the last to move. If you manage to control this aspect, you will achieve great results.
