Many golfers especially more experienced players end up struggling with the putting yips and have trouble getting back to the level of confidence they had on the greens when they first started playing the game. In most cases the putting yips is a problem with the way you think on the greens and in particularly with the way you think right before you hit the putt.
How to cure the yips:
Thinking too much before you hit the putt can result in poor putts. It is important to learn to quiet your thoughts and focus on the target as you hit the putt. One way to learn to quiet mind is through meditation so do some research to learn about the various meditative practices that exist and use them to help you think more clearly on the greens. Doubts and fears can also cause bad putts so if you are not confident that you will make the putt then you need to step away and get back the belief that you will make the putt.
Learning to look and react to your putts is important and you need to trust your natural ability to judge distance and to repeat a good putting stroke that you have trained many times. Another important putting tip to keep in mind is the idea of trying to make every putt that you attempt. Many golfer try to aim for a 3 foot circle around the hole when putting from long distances and this is often not a good idea as it will increase your margin for error. Instead it is better to think of making the putt instead by having it roll into the hole on the last rotation or two.
