Golf Putting Tips

Learning to putt well can really contribute to making you a better player and shooting lower scores more quickly. There are many factors to consider if you want to become a better putter. The first step is to decide on a putting technique and style. There are many people that use a wide variety of different styles that do very well on the course and putt well so try different techniques and then make a commitment to stick with that putting style.

Avoid changing putting styles regularly:

Once you find a technique that works well for you then you need to stick with it making only small refinements along the way to help you improve. Just because you had a bad putting performance in the last round does not mean it will continue. It may just be a case of working on your putting mechanics more or working on other mental aspects of putting in order to get better.

If you are learning a new putting technique then you need to give yourself time to learn the technique properly and to get comfortable with it. People that get the yips tend to lose confidence too easily on their putting and as a result their performance suffers on the greens. You need to learn to trust your stroke even when the ball misses and regardless of how poorly you putted in the last few holes.

Putt to make it:

Many people especially with long putts over 20 feet try to aim for a 3 foot circle however this strategy may not be the best. The best approach is to simply try to make every putt. This will lower your margin for error, simply focus on making the putt by dying the ball into the cup so you do not have to try to hit the putt hard or get it to the hole.  Click here to learn more about how to improve at golf.
